Allegiance

In Evernight, there are two ways for players to combine their forces in a joint attack on other players:
Allegiances and Allies.

Diplomacy

By convincing another player to swear allegiance to you, you gain half the number of points for regions they own or command.

Allegiances

Likewise, if you swear allegiance to another player, they gain half the number of points you have including those you acquired from other players.

You do not get fewer points if you swear allegiance to somebody, they just get more.

Swear Allegiance

Allegiances are formed when one player (the Follower) Swears Allegiance to another player (the Leader), and the Leader accepts the allegiance.

When this happens, it affects all of the players' forces everywhere on the map, so that the Leader and the Follower are always considered to be "combining" forces.

When players "combine" their forces, they do not attack each other (unless the Leopard Fighter spell is in effect), and one of the players is selected Captain of the forces (see below for rules on who is selected Captain).

During the battle , each player's forces fight for their owner (ie, any fury generated by the forces goes to the owner of the forces).

Then, when the battle is over, all surviving forces become owned by the Captain (this can cause lessers to get upgraded or downgraded).

Combine Forces

citadel

When players in an Allegiance combine their forces, the following rule determines which player is selected as Captain:

if the Follower is the owner of the region where the battle is fought, then he is the Captain, otherwise the Leader is the Captain.

Chasing the Purse

Allegiances affect your ranking in the points category. A maximum of 5 players may pledge allegiance to any single player (the actual number depends on the Max Followers game option).

Allegiances

If you swear Allegiance to another player, then it makes you ineligible to win a share of the purse by yourself; you can only share the purse that your Leader wins (if they wish to share it with you).

Your Emperor is simply the player at the top of your allegiance chain.

If the player that you swear allegiance to has not sworn allegiance to another player, then that player will be your Leader is also your Emperor. You have no control over choosing your emperor, only your Leader.
