~ A First Evernight Game ~

Submitted by wyrm419 5/25/2013 10:38:00 AM {time} ago

I have been away for a while, but am back. I notice that the FEG is set to start at 5 players. I used to do this by hand... is it set to do this automatically now? That is a step in the right direction. Yet I fear that it is still a bit short of what is needed even in this pre re-release stage. If you could set it to start every 72 hrs. regardless of players joined we would at least be able to get would be players into the action within a set time frame. as the key to joining real games is the completion of x cycles of the FEG we need to get newbs through them.(the code for this need not be written from scratch, just borrowed from the Fenroot Frenzy code.) (If it where mine to do with as I wished; I would remove the need to complete the FEG to advance. I would set the fen up as a entry point into the action with a one time reward of 1 exp. This would put them into real games in no time at all.) At the very least lets think of a new description for the current FEG. wyrm

It's not automatic. For the time being I have been manually adjusting the number of players for FEG & Greenhorns games.
If you ever log in and see one that I haven't noticed yet that needs to be adjusted, feel free to go ahead and change it.
Coming up with better entry path for new players is a high priority issue. It's something we definitely want to have in place before we'll feel comfortable about spending money on marketing efforts.
1) Get new players into action quickly.
2) Provide a "sandbox" for new players to play against other new players insulated from experienced players.
3) Protect the experienced players main games from inactives as much as possible.
I'm not sure what the status is with the Fens, I think there was an issue of some kind and they were turned off.
As far as the FEG description, sure, if you think it could use an updating, let's do it. Toss some ideas out, or if you feel confident enough go ahead and change it.

I am not informed enough of the processes it takes for the newb to get the needed exp. it takes to join real games. Must the new player complete the whole game? If yes then its a lost cause at the current player base. Has there been a code written in the past on this or any of the 3 or so templates for the FEG in the database that awards the new player the flag needed to join true games? Without this info I can not write a proper intro to the game.
(fenroot was lost after a server move. was running smoothly but when the move happened...)

template #26 My First Evernight Game the game description is

For New Players Only, Runs 7 days.<BR>Work with or fight the in game coach, <br><I>Free Join Game, Computer takes control of inactives.</I>

this would be a great place to start. I think it has a script written to make it end after 7 days and has an AI plug in.
