Under the category of something completely different. I'd enjoy seeing some kind of Nergal version of CNN or FOX news or maybe BBC news. On each map, it could monitor battles and provide some headline report on things that are happening outside the 90 or 95% probability. e.g. - Zolwelbynt Native Crusader slays two Amra. Then tackles a Hatchling in six rounds of battle - Holds old_ugly off for three cycles. He could just may be superman. You could also report on specific battles / game events. e.g. - UNBELIEVABLE. canute eliminates killer_miller with a single Crusader. See "burningdownthecanefield" for details. - The bombardment of Shuldum continues. The battle continues for control of the swamp region Shuldum. Four consecutive cycles have passed, and each time the region has changed hands as the battle continues to escalate. It would be "interesting" to come up with the rule set to determine what constitutes newsworthy material on the map. And also how to construct unique newsclips that fit the game backstory based on those events. Only newsworthy items should appear, meaning several cycles could pass without anything. The point would not to provide information that could be used in battle - but to draw your attention to potentially interesting occurrences on the map.
This is an interesting idea.
Ultracorps does something similar. After each tick, it generates several lists of notable stats. Biggest battles, Most forces destroyed, Longest battles, etc.
Plus they do have a news style "commentary" about the goings on during a game, however I do believe that it is player generated by players who just like to do that sort of thing and have a knack for it.
