Reaching Out

Submitted by cpl.gilly 7/13/2012 5:22:00 AM {time} ago

As I was perusing player ratings,I recalled all these names of former players who made the community so lively both in chat, games and forums,I would hope there are plans to reach out to these players via their emails.I'm sure quite a number would be interested in at least checking things out, getting into a warmup game or 2 reconnect with old friends. gilly

Reaching out to past players will definitely be done.
We already did a small test. About a week ago we sent out a simple email to players who have logged in at least once since June 1st but hadn't logged in after the date of the announcement.
We're holding off anything major until either very close or more likely just after the relaunch of the new site.
Unfortunately the quality of the email address list we have is not so great. Our small test which was a couple of hundred addresses had a bounce rate around 30%. And that's for players who have logged in at least once in the last 6 weeks. We expect as we go older into the list, the bounce rate will get higher.

If I remember correctly you dont need to fill in a legitimate email address. You could change that sign-up phase to forcing to reply to an activation email. Your email list will be more accurate in the longterm future but it might deter persons with short attention spans, getting easily bored with the minor nuissances a signup throws at them.

Currently you don't need a valid email address. Currently the system will accept anything that resembles an email address.
We will be moving to an email activation pattern.
