Non-subscribed
Submitted by Management 7/4/2012 4:38:00 PM {time} ago in Community Feedback
For the time being it is our intention to to make no distinction between subscribed and non-subscribed players. It's our intention to have removed all banners, nags, messages, etc. that non-subscribed players may be receiving. We think we got most of them, but you if find any we missed, please bring it to our attention so we can stamp it out. While for the time being no subscription will be necessary to play, please be assured that if you wish to continue your subscription or make a donation as a show of support it is and will be very much appreciated. (we know there's no donation button anywhere right now, sometime in the next week or two, we'll find a place to add one that's discreet yet easy to find.)
The oldest rule was two one time games free before subscription and ten ongoing games for a subscription.
Ive been paying now for over 11 years at the $5 per month or whateve the larger timeframe rate is. There are a few of us still paying.
In any case the other place yo uneed to chagne is the free join option shold be configurable in the templates.
I would offer that youc an't be an admin without paying. can play (some number) of games at a time if you are playing for free.
You need some incentive to pay. MOre games at a time is typical.
Though I do agree, right now with the small player base, anything to draw is a good thing, but if you can get the draw you should be careful not to put that free thing too open. Give a great ride for free, but a better one for pay.
There was also banter at one point of two levels of pay, basically a number of games at one time expansion.
Though how someone can actually play more than 10 games is a real challenge, though there is that blitz game that will come up tat we just have to join.
Grow that limit beyond 10.

At the moment, we're really up in the air about which direction we'll ultimately end up going in regarding subscriptions.
It is our belief that Evernight has a minimum critical mass of players (we think somewhere around 300 give or take) for the overall community and games to "feel" right.
Games are decent size, they fill reasonably rapidly, you're more likely to see new faces as neighbors in the games, there's lively activity in the newsgroups, etc.
And most importantly, when potential new players wander in, they find a happening place.
At the moment we're leaning towards some kind of "freemium" model. Some base level of play will be free, with options for additional "premium" or extra features to be purchased.
Although at this point, where that dividing line will be or what features would be free what would be subscription, etc. we don't really know.
For the time being though, we do want to stamp out the not subscribed banners, nags, etc.

I'd like to thank you for taking this out. The last few years I've been unable to really pay for the game, lack of a good paying job, and the sheer loss of players has made it rather difficult to find reason to play. I hadn't checked in on the game in a while and noticed I wasn't getting bombarded with Non-Sub things, till I found this thread. Thank you for helping save a game that was a major part of my youth.

I hate to even suggest this, but one option is to have certain popular game types in a "newbie" form based on player XP, and an "expert" form which only subscribers can play.
ToT format games would be an obvious choice. That screens out casual players from the format.

I remember the days of having 16 games on the list (putting both accounts together) & occasionally thinking it wasn't enough. I would always have prefered paying $10 for one account instead of 2 x $5 for 2 accounts to get the 16 slots
It's worth remembering that if you have 8 games in a list you might not be actively playing in all of them. Some wont have started yet & if you die (or surrender) it stays there filling a slot until the end.

I too remember thinking 8 wasn't enough.
I'd like to see the list extended to 20 games at once at least. That way, players can rotate into new and old games without worry. Die in one, there's no need to worry about wasting a precious slot on the game you really want to play vs. a quick duel that could wind up sitting on your slot longer than you realize.

I'd personally like to see no maximum as such.
Just say 2 or 3 free slots & then you pay 'x' amount per month (or multiples thereof) for another say five slots. If you then find the evercrack has fully taken hold & you really really need another slot for that unmissable team game you were waiting for, you can then pay 'x' amount again for another 5 slots to fill.
Those who want a free game get one while anyone who wants to pay (either because they want more slots or just to support the game) can do that too.

At this point we're still not sure what direction we're going to go with regarding subscriptions, game slots, what's free, what's premium, etc.
It's way too soon to say what form it will take, but one way or another, players who want to play more games will have a way to do so.

It disappears as soon as I go into an NG & doesn't show when going back to the newsgroup list within the window.
